This winter’s Finnish rounds of the Snowcross Super League were held for the first time in Kauhajoki on March 16-17, 2024. The series focuses on three tough Pro classes, Pro Open, Pro Women, and Pro Lite, which had competitions on both days. Saturday also included the Sport class, as well as several Junior classes. On Sunday, the track was open to juniors under 11 years old driving small 200cc snowmobiles.
Pro Open
On Saturday, the Pro Open class was won by Mille Andersson, with Emil Mikalsen second and Alfred Gunnarsson third. On Sunday, Aki Pesonen took the top spot in the PRO Open class final, with Emil Mikalsen second and Emil Hansson third.
The excitement in the PRO Open class lasted until the end on Sunday. Hansson lost his brakes towards the end of the race, and as Kristoffer Holm went for the Super Lane on the last lap, Aki Pesonen took the lead, ultimately causing Holm to drop to fourth place.
After Kauhajoki, the Pro Open class series points are led by Emil Mikalsen (110 points), followed by Robert Lunden (102 points) and Aki Pesonen (99 points).
Pro Women
In the Pro Women’s class, Saturday’s final was won by Emma Laamanen, with Ida Rosell second and Venla Kauvosaari third. Saga Forsell was absent on Saturday’s race day. On Sunday, Wilma Jonsson won the final, with Saga Forsell second and Emma Laamanen third.
The series points changed in Kauhajoki. Wilma Jonsson still held the top spot (134 points), Tilde Karelius moved up to second place (90 points), and Elise Jonsson was third (86 points). Saga Forsell remained fourth in the series points, despite missing Saturday’s competition. Emma Laamanen was not present at the Boden competitions, and Jenny Lundström did not participate in the Kauhajoki competitions.
Pro Lite
Topi Rinne, who dominated the Pro Lite class in Boden, secured first places in the heats on Saturday but finished second in the final, with Nemo Fahlander taking the victory. On Sunday, the situation turned again in Topi Rinne’s favor as he won, with Nemo Fahlander finishing second and Gustav Vesterlund in third.
After Kauhajoki, the series points leader in the Pro Lite class remains Topi Rinne (134 points), followed by Nemo Fahlander (90 points) and Felix Andersson (86 points).
Snowcross Super League Junior Classes
The Kauhajoki race was the final weekend for the junior classes for the entire series. In the Junior 14-16 class, Norway’s Isak Persen took the championship, Finland’s Niklas Isokääntä moved up to second in the series points, and Valtteri Kotala secured third place overall.
In the Juniors 13-14 class, the championship went to Sweden’s Alf Grandberg, with Finland’s Otto Tukiainen in second and Eemeli Juujärvi in third.
In the Junior 11-12 class, Norway’s Leon Loveid captured the championship, with Emil Isokääntä in second and Eetu Luoto in third.
In the Junior Girls 11-16 class, the championship went to Sweden’s Holly Vesterlund, with Norway’s Adine Persen taking silver and Sweden’s Nelly Eriksson bronze.
The Junior 9-11 class victory went to Valter Laine, with Aarni Pöntinen in second and Nooa Juujärvi in third.
In the Junior 7-9, or Micro Juniors, Aatu Aula emerged as the winner, with Eemil Nyberg in second and Leevi Ylianttila in third.
The Kauhajoki competition was organized jointly by the Kauhajoki Snowmobilers Association and the Snowcross Super League series organization.
The first competition weekend of the Super League series took place in early February in Boden, Sweden, and Kauhajoki was the series’ second competition weekend. The series concludes for the Pro classes in May in Austria. The special feature of the competition held in Wildkogel is the competition site located at an altitude of 2100 meters above sea level in the Alps.
